Welcome to my blog! This is a site where family (and anyone interested in historical family photos) can view pictures from my grandmother’s “big old” photo album and learn something about the historical context of each. Why would you want to do that?
- You are a snoop and love poring over the personal moments that someone else chose to capture on film.
- You are a hectic, modern person full of petty grievances and insecurities who finds peace in old pictures.
- You are my family member (lucky you!) and this is your way of staying close to me.
Whatever the case, my hope is that the pictures I post and the words I blog will make you feel as if you’ve just received a BIG OLD FAMILY HUG direct from me and my past to you. We’re all family, after all, it just depends how far back you go.
“Wait…who is this trying to hug me?”
My name is Martha and I live in New York with my husband and two daughters. My grandmother, Marjorie Dunning Stewart, created the album with pictures from life in Orange County, NY, 1908-1940.
As current Keeper of the Photo Album I am thrilled to embark on this project and would love to hear what you think. Please feel free to leave comments and/or send me an email at this address.
